Here I propose the introduction of principles and educational methods of liberal arts into home economics, to encourage young students studying home economics in women’s university to build professional careers such as administrative and leading roles in the society. To do so I practiced ‘critical thinking’ and ‘dialog’ in the study of food area of home economics and examined the effect of active learning into the classes. Introducing active learning improved difficulty in dealing with logical thinking, helped to understand ‘why and how’, rather than the memorization of technical terms; a pair and/or team work made them to realize how difficult and important to communicate with others more than merely mastering the knowledge and skills of foods.
